Mother fails drug test by eating Poppy seed bagel and looses her baby

I hope she didn’t have a piece of rum cake to go with that.

The Daily Mail reports that a mother is suing a Pennsylvania hospital and social services after her three-day-old baby was taken away because a poppy seed bagel made her fail a drugs test.

Elizabeth Mort said she tested positive for opiates after delivering her child at Jameson Hospital, in New Castle, because she ate the bagel before giving birth.

Three days after her baby girl Isabella was born, officials from the Children and Youth Services (CYS) came to her home and took the child away.The officials said it was because blood work taken while she was in hospital had revealed she was using opiates.

Miss Mort told NBC: 'When she was gone, our family was just at a loss of words. I couldn't stop crying.

'Alex just didn't even know how to be himself. It felt like our heart was ripped in pieces.

'The most important person was missing, and we didn't know when we would see her again.'

Isabella was finally returned to the couple five days later after she was originally taken, but two days after authorities admitted they had made a mistake.
